Kootenay Rockies Tourism works to promote tourism in British Columbia's 'Mountain Playground'.It's offices are based in Kimberley, and it covers the southern part of the province. The Kootenay Rockies area is on of six designated tourism destinations in British Columbia. It has five spectacular mountain ranges including the Canadian Rockies, and has opportunities for a wealth of outdoor activities.
Kootenay Rockies Tourism is made up of local tourism businesses including ski and golf resorts, hot springs lodges, and bars and restaurants. The organization promotes the area through a series of publications, an accommodation guide, and information on seven itineraries that visitors can follow. These include the 'Rockies and Ranches, Hot Springs and Golden Triangle Tour, also a popular cyclist route. The area offers limitless opportunities for outdoor and sporting activities such as mountain biking, skiing, dog sledding and hiking. There are eight ski resorts here including the new development at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort, which features a new gondola, high speed chairlift and heli-ski facilities. There are over 20 golf courses surrounded by breathtaking scenery, and for something more gentle pamper yourself at one of the many day or residential spas.
There are a number of educational attractions and interpretive centers which provide a great learning experience for children and adults. The area is steeped in history, from the aboriginal culture dating back thousands of years, and known today as the Kutenai Nation, through the 19th century gold rush. The area is also well-known for its community of artists, artisans and local craft industries.
