Kimberley Summer Theatre in Kimberley, BC
The Kimberley Summer Theater is located at 64 Deer Park Avenue in Kimberley, British Columbia. It was founded in 1998 and strives to provide affordable, professional theater for all ages.
Each year the Kimberley Summer Theater produces a stage show and a Vaudeville show. The stage show is usually a musical comedy that's produced by the theater. The Vaudeville show is a free variety show performed outdoors in Kimberley's city center. Shows run during the busy tourist times in July and August.
Ticket prices are low due to the support of the local government, members, donators, and many volunteer and semi-volunteer staff. Most staff, excluding the professional actors, work on a volunteer basis. Tickets are $12 for children age 12 years old and younger, and $16 for adults.
Aspiring young actors from 7 to 14 can take part in theater school for young people run during the summer school holidays. The program is taught by the professional actors who perform on the Stage and Vaudeville shows.
The theater school involves character development through the use of improvised skits, scenes, theater games, voice activities and mimes. When the course is completed, students get to perform a short play for parents and friends.
There are approximately 10 professional actors that work at the Kimberley Summer Theater each summer show. These professional actors come from all across Canada.
The Theater is always looking for new members. Membership is $10 per year per person or $15 per year per family. Membership helps support the theater and also offers people a chance to get involved in various aspects of theater production.
