The Garden View Village in Kimberley, British Columbia is a seniors housing facility located in the beautiful tourist town in the Kootenay Rockies. It's a four-story development with 53 units of senior housing. Ten studio apartments and three one-bedroom apartments are assisted living suites rent subsidized and funded under the Independent Living BC program.
Up to $82,500 in rent supplements for the 13 subsidized units is provided each year by the province.
Tenants who choose to live in the assisted living suits use approximately 70 percent of the after-tax income to pay for the units and the services that come with the units. Services include two meals a day, linen services, social and recreational opportunities, personal care services, 24-hour emergency response, and shuttle-bus services.
The Garden View Village, which opened its doors in September 2007, is connected to the Garden View Lodge. The Garden View Lodge is home to 21 units of subsidized supportive seniors' housing that also receives rent supplements from the provincial government.
Up to $119,700 in rent supplements for the 21 units of supportive seniors' housing at Garden View Lodge comes from the British Columbia government.
Those who would like any subsidized suite need to fill in an application for eligibility. Eligibility is determined by the Golden Life Management, an organization that was formed in 1999 to improve the quality of life for seniors by maximizing their independence and offer affordable living options.
Golden Life Management owns seniors assisted living and residential care facilities in seven BC communities.
Garden View Village has a hair salon and barbershop, a games room with pool table and shuffleboard, a garden area and an emergency monitoring system.
