Centre 64 is situated close to the
Platzl pedestrian mall, and is the arts and culture venue for Kimberley.Named after its address at 64 Deer Park Avenue, the center provides the perfect setting for the visual and performance arts, and houses the information offices of the Arts Council.
Centre 64 houses a main gallery, two exhibition spaces, a dance and music studio and a 124-seater theater. There is also a Guildroom for fiber artists, and in the future the Centre plans to develop a ceramic arts studio. The Centre hosts various touring and temporary exhibitions featuring local and regional artists using many different styles and techniques including painting in oil, acrylics, and pastel, textile work, photography and sculpture. The performance program features comic and classic drama plays, musicals and many live music events featuring different genres such as bluegrass, community choirs, rock and roll, and country.
Centre 64 holds a number of events annually to promote arts and culture in Kimberley. These range from sketching and painting clubs, workshops, and a summer arts festival. The summer 'Arts on the Edge' festival features many local and regional artists, live music performances, demonstrations and an artisan market in the Platzl. A juried art exhibition and silent auction are held, and the festival draws to a close with a festive family picnic.
The Centre is available for private hire for meetings, performances, receptions and classes. Joining its membership costs $20 a year, and includes discounts on workshop fees, invitations to opening night receptions and free entry to the annual 'Call for Entry' exhibits.
