The Peace of Mind Emporium in Rutland was established by Julie White in 1994, and moved to its current premises in 1999. White opened it following a vision she had in the previous year about a place where people could relax and feel a sense of well-being, away from the stresses of modern life. Much more than just a store, The Emporium provides professional support and therapies, a library, and gardens as well as inspirational gifts.
The Emporium achieves an atmosphere of calm and well-being using natural light, water, chimes and music and sounds of water. Trees, fountains and statues complement the surroundings. The store sells jewelry, music, holistic pet treatments and items relating to Zen and Native American Indian culture and beliefs. There is a resource library and sitting area to relax with a book, and a music room. On the upper level the 'Breathing Space' offers inspiring views of the mountains where customers can read, rest and meditate. The space can also be used for meetings and healing groups.
The Emporium has professional nurse on its staff bringing their experience in many areas including, chemical dependency, cancer and hospice care, and pediatrics. The Solarium provides a workshop space, and rooms for massage and holistic practitioners. Massages for relaxation or to relieve your specific symptoms such as muscle spasm, headaches or back pain are available seven days a week. Reiki and acupuncture treatments, and one-to one counseling are also available.
Outside customers will find the Peace Gardens which have been designed and planted by Master gardener Susan Simon, and provide a space for reflection and meditation.
