Once the hangout of legendary writer Ernest Hemingway, Sloppy Joe's Bar is known Internationally and offers a great place for visitors to relax, enjoy live entertainment, and have a cool drink.
Sloppy Joe's has been welcoming Key West visitors since 1933. The bar opens at 9AM and you can enjoy a drink or something from the menu. The live music begins at noon and continues throughout the day and into the early morning hours. Sloppy Joe's began as the infamous Key West Saloon. Within a few years it had changed locations and taken a new name which was encouraged by Hemingway. The name was adopted from the Jose Garcia Rio Havana Club which sold liquor and iced seafood. The floor was always wet from melting ice and patrons would often tease the owner about running such a sloppy place. The rest is history.
