Lighthouse Museum, Key West, FL
Long ago, a lighthouse was built to protect ships from hitting the dangerous reefs of Key West. Built in 1825, destroyed in 1846, and rebuilt later inland on Whitehead Street, this lighthouse continued to shine its guiding beacon of helpful purpose for 120 years. Today it is open as a museum for those appreciate the beauty and special splendor of lighthouses. Climb the 88 steps to the tower and view the grounds. There is a small museum of nautical artifacts and vintage pictures of the lighthouse in the Keeper's Quarters.
Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children (6-17). Hours are 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Sunday. The tower is not handicap accessible.
