Fort Zachary Taylor State Historic Site and Park, Key West, FL
The history here dates back to 1845, when the building of the fort began. The Yankees took it over in 1861, and it completion was final in 1866. Today it is a National Landmark open for tours at Noon and 2 pm. Come in February and you'll be just in time for the action of Civil War Days. You can enjoy picnicking, snorkeling, and fishing on the west side of the state park.
Admission is $2.50 per person for the first two people per carload, then $1 for the rest of your group. Persons arriving on foot or bicycle can be admitted for $1.50 each. The park is open Monday - Saturday 8 am to sunset.
