Cudjoe Key in The Florida Keys
No matter if you are planning a trip to Mexico or somewhere in the United States, a great place to take the family, or go with someone special, is to Cudjoe Key; which is in the Florida Keys!
Many times when people hear of the Florida Keys, they are unaware that there are several different keys. In fact, they are known as two different groups of "keys"; which are the Upper Keys and the Lower Keys. As for the Cudjoe Key, it is located in the Lower Key.
When it comes to Cudjoe Key, it was originally known as Littleton Island; and it has a population of only 1,695 people. Because there are so few people that live on the Cudjoe Key, the U.S. Army put a missile tracking station there in 1960. The missile or blimp today is known as Fat Albert; and it runs as a drug interceptor for the drug enforcement administration.
When it comes to the history of Cudjoe Key, many people believe that the key was named possibly after the Joewood tree (Jacquinia keyensis Mez); which was a native species and also known to be cudjoewood. Many people also believe that Cudjoe Key got its name from a runaway/freed black that lived on the island before the 1849 Gerdes' survey.
The best part of Cudjoe Key is the weather! When it comes to the weather and surroundings, it is an absolute beautiful place! In fact, Cudjoe Key along with the entire string of Keys is known for its tropical weather. However, the Lower Keys is known mainly because of its "natural" setting and it abundant wildlife. Also, the Lower Keys are the keys that are least touched by man-kind!
Whether you are going to visit Cudjoe Key or any of the other Keys, it will be an absolute great time for you; especially because of the beauty and weather! It will be a memory of a lifetime!
