This annual event celebrates the life and works of Pulitzer Prize winning author Ernest Hemingway with a variety of events and activities including a look-alike contest, fishing tournament, and literary readings.
Once upon a time, Hemingway embraced Key West, fished in the local waters, and even wrote many literary classics in his home on Whitehead Street. During the festival, visitors can enjoy book signings from nationally acclaimed authors, a theatrical play about the life of Hemingway, a museum exhibition featuring rare Hemingway memorabilia, a family boat-building workshop, and a 3 day marlin fishing tournament.
Hemingway's granddaughter Lorian who herself is a Pulitzer Prize nominated author will also be on hand to announce the winner of the annual short story contest. Here aspiring writers can get their works seen and also meet established authors. Perhaps the most unique of all events is the look-alike contest and "running of the bulls". Held at Sloppy Joe's Bar, over 200 look-alikes from all over the world will compete for the title of "Papa". After the contest there is a comical tribute and recreation of Pamplona's popular event where men and bulls run through the streets of the city. Enjoy literary works, unique events, and other great fun when you celebrate the life and works of Ernest Hemingway at Hemingway Days in Key West.
