Providing several historical sites and scenic attractions, the Wailua River in Kauai is the longest and only navigable river in Hawaii. Beginning at the Wai'ale'ale Crater, it is fed by numerous tributaries en route to the ocean. Easily explored by kayak, there are several interesting forks which lead to the waterfalls for visiting tourists and visitors, with many motorized boats visiting the Groto on an hourly basis, greeted by Hula Dancers and musical songs.
Several large stones are located at the mouth of the river, adorned with ancient petroglyphs carvings whose viewing depend a lot on the amount of sand located in the area — if the area received heavy rains, the rocks are uncovered to show the carvings. The most popular boat ride is the sacred Fern Grotto, enhanced by flat-bottomed cruise boats which carry tourists 40 minutes up the river, with those who use the kayaks driving on the right "lane" of the river. Many visitors find it exciting to go to the "Secret waterfall" which is located on the right fork of the river about 35 minutes away from the river's mouth. They dock on the right side and follow a trail to this mysterious waterfall so many visitors see every year.
Some of the top attractions in the area are the Helicopter Sightseeing Tour to Mt. Waialeale, Nt Pali Coast and Kokee State Park, Waimea Canyon, and the Hanelei Bay and Valley — all topped by the historical sites of the Wailua River. Other destinations include Fiji Activities, Cook Islands, Samoa Activities, Tonga Activities, Tahiti Activities, and those of Hawaii.
