Reading is still considered a great pastime for many people. Going to their local library is a great way for many to spend an afternoon. If you're in Missouri, you won't want to miss the opportunity to see the Writers Place in Kansas City, MO. Located on Pennsylvania Street, the Writer's Place, however, is more than just a library. It's a center for the literary people of the community and a place for readers and writers to gather together and share their interest in literature and writing. The purpose of the Writer's Place is to help promote anyone interested in writing as well as those that have written and to help get the public interested in literature and writing. Its goal is also to encourage young people to show their interest and learn about reading, writing and literature in general.
The Writer's Place has Freelance Writer's Directory that lists all the freelance writers in the metropolitan regions of Kansas City as a means to promote their talent and work. It also serves as advertising and promotion of the writers. The Directory breaks down each writers work into the type of writing such as fiction, nonfiction, creative writing, etc.
The Writer's Place is in a mansion in Kansas City along with Helicon Nine, Inc, both of whom are part of a non-profit organization, The Midwest Center for the Literary Arts. The original purpose of the Writer's Place, which was founded in 1992, was a place for book signings, readings, workshops, theater productions and things of that order. Its purpose is still to encourage writers and readings to get together to share their work and their love of the art, and to consider reading and writing as a true art.
Although, it is run by only one staff member, there are many volunteers that come to help keep the place running smoothly.
