Worlds of Fun is an amusement park in the Kansas City area. The park has over 100 attractions including new thrill rides and traditional favorites for all the family. The park opened in 1973, and together with the Oceans of Fun water park the site covers an area of over 235 acres. It is based on the Jules Verne book, Around the World in Eighty Days, and features five locations from around the world - the Orient, Scandinavia, Europe, Africa, and Americana.
There are 10 major thrill rides at the park, and the newest, constructed in 2006, is the multi-million dollar Patriot roller coaster. Others include the Detonator, where you'll be shot into the air at great speed and experience a freefall, and the Timber Wolf wooden roller coaster. There are a number of rides suitable for all the family including the Autobahn bumper cars, Viking Voyager log flume and the Skyliner ferris wheel.
Oceans of Fun has many fun and exciting water attractions including Paradise Falls with water cannon, slides and a massive bucket emptying on swimmers below, and one of the world's longest water slides. Enjoy the vertical drops of Aruba Tuba, and the Castaway Cove, an adult-only pool with a swim-up refreshment bar.
There is a full program of live entertainment including performances by 'Perondi's Extreme Canines' Dog Show, Halloween fun and frights, music shows and Camp Snoopy.
There are picnic areas, restaurants and snack bars, including the new Panda Express, located around the park. The souvenir shop stocks merchandise for your favorites rides and Peanuts characters, plus clothing, games and toys.
