The Power and Light District in Kansas City, Mo is a shopping district and entertainment section if the downtown Kansas City area. It consists of nine blocks of entertainment and fun. It's located by what is known as the downtown loop. This district cost a total of $850 million, which makes it the biggest developing project in all of the Midwest. One unique quality is that the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages that are open is allowed on the streets here, unlike almost any other place in the United States. It's not allowed anywhere else in Kansas City, however.
The name of this elite district was originally going to be called the Kansas City Live!, but they decided to name it after the Kansas City Power and Light Building and the art deco. They have named one block of the district, Kansas City Live!, however. This block has three floors of restaurants, bars and nightclubs plus a large venue for concerts and a courtyard that is partially enclosed. This one block is dedicated to entertainment and live music.
The Power and Light District will be an important link between the downtown area's hotels, businesses, attractions and the KC convention center. This project was built in two phases, with the first phase being 450,000 square feet of entertainment and retail shops. The second phase with consist of over 1,000 residential units. This will be a huge boost to the economy of Kansas City as well as making it a place everyone will want to visit and spend their time. It is scheduled to make its Grand Opening in the spring of 2008. Most people can hardly wait.
