The Fou Frog in Kansas City is a bistro-style French restaurant in the heart of the historic Riverside Market district. It is owned by Mano Rafael, also the chef, and his wife Barbara. The restaurant with its intimate atmosphere, bistro tables, soft lighting and mirrors around the walls give an authentic French feel to the place. There is an extensive menu selection that features both traditional Provençal and contemporary French cuisine. Chef Rafael creates many seasonal chalkboard specials in addition to the dinner menu. Appetizers include classic French onion soup, Salade de Fromage de Chevre Chaud with a fig and honey compote, and a Salade de Portobello Grille. Entree choices include Lobster Tails service with a vanilla and champagne puree, Steak au Poivre and Filet de Fou, a filet mignon with lobster meat. As one would expect there is a fine wine list to accompany your meal, and a great selection of French cheese to complete your meal.
The restaurant has a Happy Hour from 4.00pm -7.00pm on Thursday and Friday with choices from a special menu including Moules Marinieres — steamed mussels, Huitres Naturelle — raw oysters in the half shell, and Salade de Confit de Canard — braised duck with lentil salad and raspberry vinaigrette.
The Restaurant celebrates events such as Bastille Day and the monthly Nights of Song featuring French music. The restaurant is closed Monday and does not open for lunch. Dinner is served from 5.00pm on Friday - Sunday and from 5.30pm Tuesday - Thursday.
