Despite of what many people believe there is a lot of history behind any building; especially official building! What many people don't know, but is very interesting is the history behind the Kansas City City Hall in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1937, for the cost of five million dollars, the most obvious and tallest building of three was completed. In October of 1937, the building had become dedicated.
When the building was being build it was part of a bond with the public for ten years to build for a vision of having faith, stability and progress in the future; especially with the Depression. The entire construction of the building was led by Tom Pendergast a.k.a. Boss.
The City Hall is known to be the third tallest building; having 29 stories and the 30th story is an observation deck. Not only is it a tall building, but it dominates the skyline because of being on top of a hill. Even today, it is one of the tallest buildings for a City Hall in the country; having 1,500 employees.
When it comes to the designing of the building, it took 22 months to complete; and is considered to be of neo-classical architecture. On the inside, there are many details; such as having brass sculpted elevator doors of cars, boats, planes and trains, custom brass doorknob plates and very elegant lighting fixtures. Some other very gorgeous artwork to the building is all the sculptures that depicting the growth and settlement of the Kansas City area.
Whether people know it or not, the City Hall building is known as an engineering masterpiece! The building is truly on of the best built building the city has!
