Harry S Truman Farm Home in Kansas City, MO

The Harry S Truman Farm Home in Kansas City, MO is a testament to our nation's 33rd President of the United States. The farm house was built in 1894 by the maternal grandmother of Harry Truman. Run by the National Parks Service, this farm home is the focal point of the approximately five acres left over from the original 600 acre farm. It was here that President Truman worked the farm as a youngster.

The Harry S Truman Farm Home is actually located in Grandview, near Kansas City. During the summer months there are several guided tours a day during park hours. However, you are not going to find a central visiting center. This National Park sight not only has the farm house but also some outbuildings like a garage-once-post office as well as a smokehouse and even stone fence markers and a box wagon restored.

Hours for touring the farm home are rather limited. From Labor Day to Memorial Day, the farm home is closed for tours all together. However, in the Spring and Summer, the limited operating hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  There are some self-guided tours of the farm grounds all year.

The guided tours are limited to about six people at a time and no self-guided tours are allowed inside the farm house. These tours of the Harry S Truman Farm Home are free but require a ticket which are awarded on a first come, first serve basis on the day of the tour only — no exception.

Luckily, the tours are offered every thirty minutes to allow as many people as possible to be able to visit the farm house. Be prepared for limited bathroom facilities. During the summer you can count on portable rest rooms but the winter months there are absolutely no facilities whatsoever.
