Line Creek Park was renamed the Frank Vaydik Park in honor of the Director of Parks and Recreation after his retirement in 1980. Located in Platte County, the park was further expanded a few years ago to bring the total area of the park up to approximately one hundred and thirty six acres.
The park provides a vast expanse of land for people who want to take a stroll or just sit and relax or read. Apart from this the park also has various other amenities and features. It includes three softball diamonds, of which two are provided with lighting systems. Shelters, restrooms and picnicking areas have been set up for those wanting to take advantage of fine weather. The Line Creek Community Ice Arena & Park Center are located within the grounds, and a three lane swimming pool is open to enthusiasts.
History buffs can visit the Line Creek Archeological Museum planned by Frank Vaydik himself. It is a geodesic structure built to house Hopewell Indian artifacts found on the Hopewell Village site that Vaydik saved from becoming a sewage lagoon. Nature lovers can follow the various trails and elk and buffalo sightings are common. The Kansas City Northern Railroad operates a 16-gauge railroad which is about half a mile long. It is open for rides on two miniature trains as well as one Allen Hershell train during May to October. The park has something for everyone in the family.
