This legendary restaurant was established in the 1920s by Charlie Bryant. His brother, Arthur, took over the restaurant after the death of Charlie, and moved it to its present location close to the Municipal Stadium. The Stadium was home to the Kansas City Blues, and prominent major league players and fans would grow to love the food served at Arthur' Bryant's Barbeque. It's reputation developed further being described as 'the single best restaurant in the world' by Playboy author Calvin Trillin, and former presidents Harry Truman and Jimmy Carter have both enjoyed a meal here. Celebrity guests included Steven Spielberg, Robert Redford and Jack Nicholson, and their photographs adorn the restaurant's walls.
Arthur Bryant was known as the 'King of Ribs'. He created a sauce flavored with cayenne and paprika - a closely guarded secret recipe - that has become the signature of the restaurant, along with the hickory- and oak-smoked meat. One of the five-gallon jars that he used for mixing his famous sauce is displayed in the restaurant's window. The success of the restaurant lives on after the death of Arthur Bryant, aged 80, in 1982.
The menu is simple — a great selection of barbequed meats including steaks, ribs blackened sausages, ham and chicken served with either the Original or Rich and Spicy Sauce, and bread. There are side orders of French fries, baked beans Ecole slaw, potato salad and pickles.
The restaurant has a catering service, provides Bronze, Silver and Gold Party Packs and a family banqueting service that can include menu planning delivery, set up and food service.
