This museum honors such jazz greats as Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. You can physically see the chronology of the history of jazz as well as swing music here at the America Jazz Museum.
Kansas City is the perfect city to host this place as it is the birth city of swing music. In fact, Charlie Parker, one of the many jazz greats honored, is from the city. You can see an tribute to him at the museum as well as see his saxophone that he used to make his phenomenal music.
The museum is well located in the historical part of town, around Vine and 18th Streets. You can listen to literally hundreds of CDs from the American Jazz Museum's sound library and learn the history of some of your jazz favorites. Even children have something to do here. There is a special discovery room dedicated just to them which allows them to learn more about the music of jazz through various activities.
Live music is a staple here at the American Jazz Museum at least four nights a week. There is also a special shop that sells jazz CDs, memorabilia and books. With a great location, you can combine a great tour of the Kansas City area with lots of shopping, restaurants and other sight seeing options.
