Museum of Southern History in Jacksonville, FL
Located off Hershel Street in Jacksonville, the Museum of Southern History is 25 years old and may be small but is very informative about the culture and history in the daily 19th century South. You will be full of questions and comments about all the Civil War memorabilia and artifacts they have on display. Anything related to the Southern way of life such as fashion, politics or life in general. They also have trained staff on hand to help with any questions you may have. Many of them are trained in genealogy and will be happy to assist you in doing a search of any Southern families you may want to trace. They also have a museum's shop called the Florida Depot that has many of the original military objects on sale.
If any of you are football fans, you will see the entire history of the Jacksonville Jaguars along with many pictures and football objects. Although football fans love this, many people that are not interested in football steer more towards the historical items from the past many years ago. There really is a lot for everyone to see, regardless of gender or age.
Many schools will bring their students here to view the artifacts and memorabilia from the South, especially when they are in the process of learning about the south and the Civil War. There is a small admission fee to go to the museum, but group rates are usually given for schools and large groups. If you don't have a lot of time but want to learn a little about their history, this is definitely the place to stop.
