Matthew's restaurant in San Marco, Jacksonville is located in a converted 1920's bank building . It's an award winning restaurant offering a fine dining experience in sophisticated surroundings. Matthew Medure was an AAA-5 diamond chef at the Ritz-Carlton - he left to follow his dream of owning his own restaurant and opened Matthew's in 1997. Matthew's now has a collection of award of it own including the AAA 4 diamond, Mobil 4-star rating and a Wine Spectator Magazine Award for Excellence.
The restaurant's interior features the original terrazzo floor with inlaid brass, and is complemented by the raisin and moss tones of the decor. The restaurant has a terrace room, with attractive floor to ceiling windows, and an exhibition kitchen where customers can get close to the action sitting at the Chef's table. The restaurant's intimate wine bar stocks around 650 wines from around the world.
The menu features both local seasonal produce and is influenced by cuisine from the Middle East, southern Mediterranean and Asia. There is a fine choice on the menu and the restaurant also has its own six-course taster menu, served with optional wine pairings. Appetizers include a tartare of wild salmon on marinated cucumber and caviar, or sauteed escargot with spinach, prosciutto and frizzy leeks. Try one of the chef's signature dishes that include braised kobe beef short ribs with citrus, sage and orzo, Hawaiian tuna with peppers and pickled cucumber, or carpaccio of veal with orange fillets, pine nuts and chervil. There are many fabulous desserts to choose from such as a Fuji apple tarte with dark chocolate sorbet, chocolate souffle or a crème brulee with a berry compote.
