Historic Fort Clinch State Park near Jacksonville, FL is a Florida State Park that's located on part of Amelia Island as well as northeast of Fernandina Beach. It consists of 1,100 acres of plains, sand dunes, tidal marsh and Fort Clinch. The fort was used for the Spanish-American War in 1898. However, the state of Florida purchased 256 acres of land and the fort in 1935. three years later, the park was opened to the public.
The Fort Clinch State Park has many activities and amenities for locals, vacationers or anyone looking for a day fun filled outdoor adventure. This is a beautiful park complete with many miles of beach and pier that's a ½ mile long. Over 3 miles of paved road make walking and driving easy. The six-mile hiking trail allows you to continue with your daily hiking. One campground on the beach with another on Amelia River gives you your choice of camping locations. The campsite on Amelia River has 41 campsites along with a relaxing oak hammock. Twenty-one clean campsites along with a ramped boardwalk make up the campground that's on the beach. Youth and primitive camping is also available at the park.
There are many activities to keep everyone busy at Fort Clinch State Park, regardless of your interests. Picnicking, beachcombing, hiking, sunbathing, fishing, swimming or surfcasting are just a few. Many visitors enjoy the relaxation that shelling and birding provide. You may want to bring your camera when you visit as you'll be able to get some great shots of the wildlife. Some of the things you can plan to see are white-tailed deer, dolphins, alligators, manatees Purple Sandpiper and many birds.
