If ever you are in Jacksonville, Florida and you want to learn a little bit of history, a great place to go to is the Fort Caroline National Memorial. At the memorial you will be able to see and learn many great and interesting things.
The Fort Caroline National Memorial is only a memorial, but it is also the Timucuan Preserve. In fact, Fort Caroline memorializes the French presence during the sixteenth century in Florida. At the memorial, you will be able to learn many things; such as all the stories of exploration, all the religious disputes, survival, territorial battles, as well as the first contact between Europeans and American Indians.
At the Timucuan Preserve, you will be able to see the exhibit "Where the Waters Meet"; which shows the richness of the environment in Florida along with how people interacted with their surroundings thousands of years ago. While going through exhibit, you will be able to go through the bookstore, information desk, and also do many activities.
Not only are there things for adults, but there are many things for children and young adults. Some of the activities that are available are;
· Being able to explore Fort Caroline & Timucuan Preserve, and comparing the lives of those in the Timucua village to those in the French fort.
· In the Theodore Roosevelt Area, you will be able to hike or bike ride as well as keeping an eye out for all the different animals.
· You can learn about all the children that were slaves at the Kingsley Plantation.
· You will be able to match animal pictures with their calls in the Ribault Club; as well as learning to speak Timucuan.
· When discovering the new activities, you can now become a junior ranger; which allows you to get two different badges and a sticker!
Not only can you do this alone with the family, but you can have guides showing you around as well! There are many things to do while at the Memorial; a little for everyone!
