If you are a person that loves to look at extremely fine piece of art, then going to the Cummer Deette Holden Museum would be one of the best places that you can go to! However, the museum is located in Jacksonville, Florida!
If you have never heard of the Cummer Deette Holden Museum, then it is time that you went! In fact, museum has been opened since November 10, 1961 when Arthur and Ninah Cummer opened the museum on the land of their home! One of the things that the museum is known for is the collections of American and European paintings as also Meissen porcelain. At that time, there was only sixty pieces of art at the museum; however, the museum now has six thousand plus pieces; in which some of them are dated up to eight thousand years old. Some of the pieces of art that are displayed are the Wark Collection which is early Meissen porcelain and Eugene Louis Charvot collection of prints and paintings.
When you see the museum today, you will see that it and the landscaping are beautiful! In fact, there is just about two acres of gardens that were created by Mrs. Cummer herself! The first garden (which is at Mr. & Mrs. Cummer's residence) was planted in 1903; which was an English style garden. The second garden; which is an Italian style garden was planted in 1931. All of the gardens are beautifully situated on the St. Johns River!
Not only do people go to the museum to see all the beautiful artwork, but it also offers a cultural gathering place for people to socialize with! In fact, there are many things for people to do and see; even if it's going to lectures!
