The Amelia Island Museum of History is situated in the old historic Nassau County Jail, a 1945 renovated county jail. This, in itself lends a real touch of history, making it a true landmark. The Amelia Island Museum of History has a selection of walking tours to interest the tourists and visitors. The Centre Street Walking tour takes you down the historic district's main street while you hear stories and anecdotes about the families and businesses that contributed to the growth of Fernandina. This tour lasts 1 ½ hours long, starts at the old railroad depot and is on the 3rd Thursday of the month. The Ghost Walking Tour will have you tiptoeing through the dark streets as you hear skillfully told stories of the past. This tour is an hour long, starts at the cemetery and is held at 6 p.m. every Friday. You also have your choice of the North Fernandina Walking Tour, South Fernandina Walking Tour, Museum 8-Flags Tour and the Holiday Luminary Tour. The museum also has some Student Tours that the young folks will enjoy.
