Murie Museum in Kelly, WY is in a most auspicious location — Grand Teton National Park! Perhaps one of the most beautiful national parks in the United States, people who visit this museum are treated to the visages of Gros Ventre Mountains, Snake River, the Teton Mountain Range and even Shadow Mountain and Lobo Hill.
Teton Science Schools, particularly the Kelly Campus is the place that the Murie Museum calls home and is on the eastern side of the national park. Named after famous wildlife biologist Olaus Murie and his wife Mardie, this museum follows his work. Therefore, you can expect a format somewhat similar to a natural history museum full of information about ecology, animal life like mammals and birds and so much more.
This Kelly campus of Teton Science Schools focuses on ecological field experiments and some of the student work in progress may also be viewed. Of course, the thousands of plant life, birds and mammals may have something to do with the attraction to the Murie Museum in Kelly, Wyoming. Olaus Murie helped to create the famous Peterson guide to animal tracks and you can see many of the casts he has made from tracks of the local wildlife.
The Murie Museum has regular hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you wish to visit on a weekend, you will have to call and make a special appointment. The collection and exhibits in view of the public are exceptional in illustrating the local wildlife and what you can expect to find in the Grand Teton area.
