Zoe Kayak Tours in Ixtapa, Mexico

The Laguna de Potosi in Ixtapa is renowned for its extensive mangrove reserves, which apart from being one of the most picturesque and tranquil spots in all of the region, is also famed for the wealth of flora and fauna it supports. It is these mangrove reserves that Zoe Kayak Tours allows you to explore, while also letting you savor nature at her most serene, making it an experience of a lifetime.

Potosi is a breathtakingly beautiful salt water lagoon, which is fed by a river and has a large sand bar at its mouth. Zoe Kayak Tours offers you a six-mile long, flat paddle tour which leads you through the mangrove channels and tunnels, untouched back bays,  scenic wetlands and even short spurts of open water sections. You may also want to carry your camera and your most-attentive eye along with you, as Potosi is known to harbor more than a thousand species of waterfowl and migratory birds, and you may very well be able to spot more than 50 varieties on your expedition.

Your Zoe Kayak Adventure begins long before you hit the water. In fact, the route which leads to the launch site winds through a number of local villages, lush agricultural areas, while also meandering through five ecological zones, each of which harbors its own plethora of plant and bird life. Needless to say, the enormous diversity, which you will encounter on your tour, makes for an awe-inspiring experience. Zoe Kayak Tours also offers you a choice of four routes depending on your area of specific interest, which includes a hands-on experience of the bird-feeding activities that are conducted here.

The tours last for four hours each, but the distance you cover varies as per the route you opt for. The longer tours offer you a broader view of the birdlife and are also a great favorite with adventurous kayakers, while the shorter tours allow you to savor the craggy mountainous vistas and headlands at a leisurely pace and also let you take your time with photographing and admiring the birds you encounter.

You can also opt for the more lavish lunch-inclusive kayak tour, which offers you a sumptuous lunch at either Las Palmas Hotel or Güero's which are well-known for the delectable seafood that is served here. And if you happen to book your lunch-inclusive tour on a Thursday, you are also offered the additional choice of El Profe in Coacoyul or Santa Prisca in Zihua, which are popular local pozolerías, sought out for their sumptuous fare.

Your tour begins at 7:30 am and with the actual kayaking beginning at 9 in the morning. Expect to return by 2 pm, if you haven't chosen to have lunch with Zoe Kayak Tours and allow yourself two additional hours if you have. Tours are priced at about $80 per person, which does not include the lunch option, and reservations are required to be made at least 24 hours in advance.

For the more adventurous kayaker, there is also the tour which leads to the fresh water lagoon of Valentín, which is about 2.5 miles long and boasts of a impressive number of large snook, pargo, perch and even crocodiles which find refuge in its clear waters. You will also cross the sandbar, which separates this lagoon from the Pacific Ocean and fosters spawning turtles. Your tour will be led by a proficient and bilingual guide, who will also equip you with bird identification booklets. To much on, during the course of your tour, you will also be provided with sweet rolls and fresh fruit and strong coffee to wash it all down with. Lunch is also included in this tour which is priced at $100, per person, and is comprised of family cooked fare like fresh grilled fish, tortillas and salad. You can also unwind after your meal at the beach, or venture into the lower lagoon, or even better, stretch out on a hammock for a little snooze! Reservations are required at least 48 hours in advance and Zoe kayak Tours charges you a 50% deposit at the time of registration. Your tour embarks at 8 in the morning and heads back only at 6 pm.
