El Canto de la Sirena in Ixtapa, GR is the place where everyone goes when it's after hours. The action here at El Canto de la Sirena doesn't usually begin until this time of night when other clubs are closed. This bar is owned by Jose Luis Cobo, who is also a local legend as well as a poet and the Ambassador for the International Guitar Festival in Zihuatanejo. Legend has it that this bar was named after one of his songs. Around 10 p.m. each night Jose begins his customary songs, which all seem to tell a story. Musicians from other clubs that have finished their gigs come in to join the fun as well as off-work musicians.
The activity and excitement that takes place in this place is all dependent on who happens to stop in on any given night or what they want to do for fun. While some nights may be very quiet, others have nonstop drinking, dancing and partying almost until dawn. There is nothing predictable about El Canto de la Sirena. You never know what you'll find until you get there. Except for that fact that it's located on the second floor, many feel it's Zihua's answer to an "underground music club". This bar is located next to the main bus station in the Colonia Industrial, across the street from the magazine stand. You shouldn't have any trouble finding this fun bar as most people know where it's located because they've been there at one time or another.
