The Nightlife of Zihuatanejo and IxtapaBoth Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo offer a variety of nightlife entertainment options ranging from exciting discotheques to charming restaurants and bars. In addition, many of the hotels in Ixtapa and Zihuatenejo offers shows highlighting regional dances and costumes that are unique to Mexican culture. In Ixtapa visitors will find a broad spectrum of nightlife options ranging from quiet and relaxing to ultra modern and loud. The majority of the bars in Zihuatanejo are located in the center of downtown, although there are also a couple located near the beach area as well. You should be aware that many of the clubs in Zihuatenejo do tend to close somewhat earlier than the clubs in Ixtapa; usually sometime between midnight and 2am. Discotheques are quite popular in Ixtapa, particularly around the boulevard area. Visitors can find a wide variety of different types of music that are sure to appeal to all tastes. Perhaps the most popular clubs are Christine Club Ixtapa and Senor Frogs. Club Ixtapa offers a mixture of both Latin and English music as well as a nice setting. Senor Frogs tends toward a somewhat livelier crowd. Carlos 'n' Charlies is located next to the Best Western Posada Real and is most popular with teens and young people in their twenties. Offers dancing on a raised platform near the beach. Bandidos, a music club, offers a wide variety of different types of music including romantic, Cuban and salsa. Open Monday through Saturday in December and January. The remainder of the year, the club is open on Friday and Saturday. Quite popular with middle age foreigners interested in the music scene. Also open during the afternoon and early evening for snacks and full meals. Blue Mamou is the place to visit if you like blues and swing music. Open every night except on Sundays. The bar opens at 7pm and on occasion hosts private events, so it is a good idea to call ahead. In addition to a variety of drinks the club also offers a variety of menu options. In Zihuatanejo visitors will find a discotheque in the downtown area by the name of Sacbe. The club offers modern international music. There are a number of cozy bars and restaurants which overlook Zihuatanejo's bay. Most of the bars in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are rather informal; however, you should be aware that many of the discos do have a dress code and you may not be allowed to enter if you are wearing tennis shoes, tank tops or shorts. When visiting the clubs and discotheques in Ixtapa it is important to be aware that you must be at least 18 years of age. It is not uncommon to be carded. Minors under the age of 18 can enter a club if they are accompanied by their parents; however, they are typically not allowed to consume liquor on the premises. Most clubs do charge a cover charge on most nights, although on occasion some clubs may offer a special such as 'ladies free' night or free cover. |
