Ixtapa, Mexico Weather Information

Ixtapa offers some of the best weather throughout much of the year for a perfect vacation. The year around semi-tropical climate and an average temperature that hovers in the 80s means that Ixtapa enjoys some 300 days of sunshine per year. This is not to say that Ixtapa does not experience some rain; however. The rainy season generally begins in late May or early June and continues through the end of September and occasionally into October.

FALL/WINTER

In most cases, the rain begins to fall in the late afternoons or evenings. The great advantage of the rainy season is the intense greenery that it provides to the landscape. June and September are typically the rainiest months of the year. As storms begin coming in off the Pacific, the area tends to experience heavy rains during the wet months.

SUMMER/SPRING

If you do plan to travel during the rainy season in the summer, it's a good idea to bring along a plastic rain poncho or umbrella in order to protect yourself from sporadic rain showers. In most cases, there is no concern over the temperatures during the common rain deluges in the summer. While the rain may be heavy, it is generally quite warm during the summer season.

When packing for your trip to Ixtapa, it is typically a good idea to pack clothing that is casual and light. Due to the fact that the area is prone to cool sea breezes in the evenings, it is also a good idea to bring along either a light jacket or sweater. This is particularly true from late December until the end of March, when the weather tends to be the coolest.

For sightseeing, shorts and a short-sleeved shirt are excellent choices. Of course, if you're planning to go out in the evenings, it is a good idea to bring along something dressier as well.

It is important to keep in mind that the sun in this region can be quite strong, even when the sky is overcast. For this reason it is a good idea to bring along a quality sun screen to protect your skin. Protecting clothing can also help to protect your skin from exposure to long periods in strong sunlight. In the event you plan to go boating or fishing, make sure you bring along your sunscreen, a hat and preferably some type of cover-up to protect exposed skin. The water will intensify the affects of the sun and could make you quite uncomfortable during the remainder of your vacation if you do not take care to protect your skin.

Regardless of what time of year you plan to travel, it is a good idea to bring along water bottle to make sure you stay hydrated and to protect yourself from the affects of the sun.

Swimming and scuba diving are popular pursuits throughout much of the year. Most of the year, the water is quite balmy. The average water temperature is 79F in the spring, 70F in the winter and 81F during the summer.
