World War II Memorial in Indianapolis, IN is a beautiful monument that was designed by a local architect named Patrick Brunner. Although this memorial is similar to the Vietnam and Korean Memorials, it is much larger and is a half-circle with a complete of 9 feet 2 inches. In fact, this is the first memorial to be truly a half-circle.
Each side of the memorial serves a different purpose. The side facing Pennsylvania Street, which is convex, provides a short history about the war and pays special tribute to recipients of the Hoosier Medal of Honor as well as prominent Hoosier units.
The World War II Memorial in Indianapolis is located south of the American Legion National Headquarters and also near the American Legion Mall, making it easy for interested individuals or groups to take this all in at once.
Samples of letters written home by WWII veterans can be found on the concave side of the building as well as a list of the different operations and campaigns of the war. They also have a list of all the survivors of the war, provided by the veterans or their families.
