Wholesale District in Indianapolis, IN

The Wholesale District in Indianapolis, Indiana, is the perfect example of the rich history and high commerce of the area.  This part of town, which spans several different blocks, is the most historic and important part of Indianapolis.  Many people come to tour the area and some of the buildings because they get to see how things were more than a century ago.

Much of the big business and trade came to Indianapolis because of the construction of the railway.  In the Wholesale District, there still stands the Union Station, evidence of this feat.  From the construction of the railroads and that station, much business was started around the area, forming the Wholesale District.

The railway brought a lot of change and growth into Indianapolis, and by 1900, the Wholesale District was a booming area of town.  It's was the center for a lot of wholesale trade.  From there, other businesses sprung up, including some of the most prestigious hotels.  

The current neighborhood association's goal is to preserve the buildings and businesses as they were when they were first developed and used for wholesale trade.  They have done a great job at this and you will see that when you visit the area.  

To experience the historic feel of the Wholesale District in Indianapolis, Indiana, you can tour the area to fully experience this.  The Union Station is necessary to see as that is the pivotal building that made it all possible.  The entire area of the Wholesale District is a great example of economic boom.
