Located in the heart of Indianapolis, the War Memorial Plaza has sculptural works, beautiful open spaced landscaping and neoclassical structures and buildings. One will find the Indiana World War Memorial located in the area sitting two hundred and ten feet high. It represents the Hoosiers who were killed during the Vietnam and Korean Wars and World War I and II.
The American Legion Mall is also located here in a park like setting. You will see the Veterans Memorial Plaza that displays and flies the flags of all fifty states. The University Park where the DePew fountain is located attracts visitors daily as well as the statues of Schuyler Colfax, Benjamin Harrison and Abraham Lincoln.
The War Memorial Plaza takes up five blocks and is the number one attraction for tourists. The Indiana War Memorial has an upper level floor that is called a Shrine Room. The light shines in the through blue stained glass windows accenting the solemn and dark Shrine Room. On the ground level, you will see the museum where you will find the Cold War and Vietnam War exhibits. You can tour this building during the hours of operation.
War Memorial Plaza is where you will find everything you want to know about the history of the wars and a section of the Indiana War Memorial Museum also has a section that reflects on terror attacks. You can find other attractions around the plaza that will show a touch of history along with the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
