Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum near Indianapolis, IN Many times when people go on vacation them seldom think about going to battlefields; however, while visiting Indianapolis; especially Lafayette (which is not far from Indianapolis, IN), one of the best battlefields to go to is the Tippecanoe Battlefield.<
Even though there are millions of people that do not live in Indianapolis, it does not mean that they have never heard of the Tippecanoe Battlefield or what it represents. In fact, the Tippecanoe Battlefield is the site from which the battle of 1811 took place between Tecumseh and Harrison (which is now located 7 miles north of Lafayette, IN). Today, the battlefield is pretty much a wooded area; however, it was once the spot where many Native Americans lost their hold on much of the land in the Midwest; where they lived for many years. Also, the Tippecanoe Battlefield is known to be a national historic landmark; which happens to attract thousands of visitors each year.
When visiting the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Museum, you will be able to go and look at the grounds where the battle started. Also on the battlefield you will be able to see the historic display of guns. In the display there are 51 longs guns and firearms, which were made between the early 1800's and World War II. Inside of the museum, there are many different displays to look at as well as learn the history of how the battle was started.
Along with learning everything there is to learn about the battle, battlefield and history; you may also have some time enjoying your self on some of the other things that the museum has to offer; which are the picnic grounds, the hiking trails, the nature center, different artifacts from the European and Native American cultures and also shop through the gift shop.
