Massachusetts Avenue in Indianapolis, IN has a long, varied history which started in 1821. This avenue was one of the original diagonal streets in the downtown area and enjoyed quite a heyday up until the mid 20th century when it started a slow downhill slide. However, thanks to gentrification at the cusp of the 21st century, you can enjoy Massachusetts Avenue in its current glory — that of a popular Theater and Arts district.
There are quite a few buildings once destined for destruction that have survived to live another life like the Athenaeum, a former home to various German heritage groups, which is now quarters for the Rathskeller Restaurant with its famous Biergarten and also the America Cabaret Theater.
