Indiana's Historic National Road in Indianapolis, IN, which celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2006, is the first interstate highway that's federally funded to join the eastern seaboard of Maryland with the western interior of Missouri. The Historic National Road is designated to be an All-American Road as well as a National Scenic Byway. The Historic National Road, which covers 156 miles across Indiana, was completed when the White River Bridge and Whitewater River Bridges were both completed. In spite of the competition and change brought about from the invention of automobiles, creation of I-70 and increase of railroads, the use of the National Road has remained steady.
