The Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, IN is an automobile racing track, the second oldest existing one in the world. It is also the host of the Indianapolis 500 the most popular open wheel race around. For almost 100 hundreds, this motor speedway has really made strides in the world of racing. It can seat a little over one-quarter of a million spectators in the stands and is capable of seating at least another 150,000 on the in-field — this is the largest spectator sporting facility in the world and in history too.
If you are in the Indianapolis area, you will want to take a tour of the motor speedway. For the most part, you can view the grounds via tour from March to November before snow really becomes a problem. The best time to take the family is during late June, July and early August. You could see famous landmarks that normally are not open to the public like the media center, Victory Podium, Gasoline Alley and the Bombardier Pagoda. You can even get your picture taken in front of the Yard of Bricks.
There is also a Hall of Fame Museum on the grounds of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway located infield near the main gate area. Children age five and younger are free while adults are $25 and children six to fifteen are $10 for admission. If you are a fan of race cars, then the speedway is a must see during your stay in Indianapolis. It is an official National Historic Landmark.
