Indianapolis Art Center in Indianapolis, IN started as a WPA project in 1934 and has grown into a premier art center in the Midwest. Many feel it is one of the best.They're a non-profit community arts organization whose purpose and goal is to enhance and improve everyone's life through art as well as making sure it is accessible to very one and not just a select few. They want to help to enlighten and educate everyone on art education by observation and participation. The Indianapolis Art Center in Indianapolis, which is part of a larger art facility, consists of 40,000 square feet. The building was designed by a world famous architect named Michael Graves. In addition to the Art Center, you will find the other major art specialty groups, all as part of the art facilities, which are located on the twelve-acre campus.
ARTSPARKS, which is a part of the Art Center, is based on allowing the students and artists to perform their art in the open air as opposed to inside four walls. Festivals, films, concerts, youth groups and more have made their home at the ARTSPARKS. Located on the border of the White River, the scenery could not be more breathtaking for those that wish to spend their time outdoors while at the center.
The Indianapolis Art Center offers special rates for groups of 10 or more. The guided tours offer the opportunity to view projects as well as hands-on participation for art projects. The Center has 13 different studios, which are state of the art as well as a two-story atrium library, studio shop, porticos and an auditorium that seats 224 interested individuals. You'll also find individual artists studios for artists in the middle of their work. This can be found in the Cultural Complex houses, another part of the Art Center.
The Indianapolis Art Center has free admission to the galleries as well as free parking. In addition, they are wheelchair accessible.
