Indiana State Library in Indianapolis, IN For many people, one of the best features of Indianapolis, Indiana is the Indiana State Library.& In fact, the library is for all the citizens in Indiana; not just those that are members of the library!
As for the library itself, it was originally opened in 1825 for the purpose of providing library services to only the state government officials and employees of Indiana State. Since then, the library has been changed so that everybody in Indiana can use the library. Along with the library having such great collections as well as books, they are also known to have one of the biggest collections of family history information in the entire Midwest; which is in the Genealogy Division of the library. In fact, the collection has over 40,000 items; such as family histories, how-to books, family history magazines and cemetery transcriptions. It also has county records from Indiana and military pension information.
Another thing that many people find very impressive is the Talking Book & Braille Library website that the library has to offer. The talking book and Braille library offers large print books, books on tape as well as Braille books to those that are unable to read regular printed books due to a physical or visual disability.
