Since 1830, the Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis, IN has been an important landmark in the area. The Indiana Historical Society, along with the William Henry Smith Memorial Library, have quite an impressive collection of things pertaining to the Northwest and Indiana including 1,100 cataloged maps, 45,000 books & pamphlets, 33,000 digital images, 575 broadsides 5,000 manuscript collections and much more. All you have to do is ask and they will provide what you need.
Memberships to the Historical Society are available at very reasonable prices, including discounts for family or group rates. Some of the benefits you receive from being a member are discounts on any material you purchase. You also will be invited to many of the events that are for members only.
Some recent events shown at the Indiana Historical Society are The Faces of Lincoln and John J. Domont on the Landscape. The Faces of Lincoln tell about his role in politics, his role with the Civil War and the Emancipation Proclamation and his role with family & residences and Lincoln and photography. John J. Domont was an Indian who was a very successful painter and photographer. He is famous for his landscape oil paintings. Domont loaned five of his oils on linen and canvas to the Indiana Historical Society so they may put them on display.
The Indiana Historical Society also sponsors and puts on many events like concerts, lectures, plays among many other interesting things.
