The University of St Thomas was founded in 1947 by the Basilian Fathers, and is Houston's only Catholic University.
The University attracts students from 33 states across the US, and 54 countries. It offers undergraduate majors in medicine, law and engineering and eight Master degrees. The Cameron School of Business awards more than 300 MBA degrees annually.
Following a successful fund raising campaign the University has recently embarked on some major developments on the campus. These includes the new Mallory Hall, Guinna Hall, Moran Center and the award-winning Campus Life Mall with its prayer garden. These facilities have improved the educational, cultural and social life on the campus.
The University Chapel is dedicated to St Basil, the fourth century bishop who the Basilian Fathers had chosen as their patron. The Chapel is located in the University Mall and its construction in black granite and white stucco contrasts with the brickwork of the other buildings. It has a golden dome which is a visible landmark. The Chapel earned awards for Religious Art and Architecture Design from the American Institute of Architecture in 1998.
The official Seal for the University is in its colors of red and gold, and features a gold cross and shield representing the divinity and humanity of Christ. Doves represent St Thomas Aquinas and St Basil, and a star represents the University with the Lone Star State.
The University hosts Family Weekends for prospective students which gives the whole family the opportunity to visit the University sit in on classes and meet students and staff.
