Located in downtown Houston near Wortham Center, the Sesquicentennial Park is loaded with beautifully landscaped terraced gardens and walking trails, all them leading to Buffalo Bayou. The waters of the bayou will many times have boats floating past for you to see while you're strolling down the promenade. While at this park, you'll also see a huge metal sculpture designed of seven pillars to honor the Texas Sesquicentennial. Artist Mel Chin designed the 70-foot pillars as tribute to the city. You'll have no trouble finding the perfect time to visit this gorgeous scenery as they are open 24 hours per day. The park is also available for rent for many events.
The Gazebo and Promenade sections of Sesquicentennial Park were designed in 1986 in honor of Houston's 150th birthday. They provide a multi-level setting on the banks of the Bayou, where the scenery is breath-taking. They offer very distinctive lighting and cascading waterfalls, which makes it perfect for weddings, parties or photo shoots. Some of the attractions there are the Entertainment Facility, Bayou Place, Aquarium Restaurant, hike and bike trails, green space, waterways, boat launches and more. In 1998, a second phase of the park opened bringing in more fun activities like crawfish festivals and the Bayou Regatta and more. This park is definitely worth checking out.
