Plantersville has one of the nicest areas for gardens, shopping and special events, New Market Village. In New Market Village you can find some beautiful gardens and a place that hosts events such as the Texas Renaissance Festival. This is the most famous festival in Texas and attracts many locals and visitor every year.
New Market Village is a shopping district with over 340 shops. You can find everything from antiques, art and crafts to dining. New Market Village is a great place to shop and eat at a restaurant for the day.
The Texas Renaissance Festival is held around October 6 — November 25 every year. The 53 acre area of New Market Village is taken over by the Renaissance activities and is the largest Renaissance theme park in the country. During the time that it is open, you can visit the park every Saturday and Sunday. Thanksgiving Friday is also available and for students the park is especially open for them on two special days.
You will find some of the best entertainment of the Renaissance period at this park. You will be able to watch some entertainers who will perform some of the traditional pastimes of the Renaissance period. Shoppe keepers will be able to show you around. All of the people working the festival will be dressing in Renaissance period dress and will be speaking as if they are from the 16th century.
The reason for the festival is to honor Queen Katherine's birthday and pay tribute to her. Each weekend the festival will focus on a particular theme. Some of the most comical performances will be from the Pirates and Barbarians who will make their appearance one of the weekend. These performers will take over the festival and keep you laughing throughout the day.
