Houston, Texas Weather Information
From a traveler's viewpoint, Houston has the advantage of a year-round warm climate. Summers are hot and humid, but perfect for indoor activities, while fall and winter are the ideal times of the year to visit.
Summer in Houston
- During summer, typical highs are in the 90s and lower 100s, and overnight lows are in the mid 70s. Humidity is also high in the summer, so visitors should bring plenty of cool, comfortable clothing, as well as a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. Drinking lots of water also helps avoid heat stress on the body. Many summer visitors beat the heat by taking in Houston's indoor attractions, like the Museum of Natural History or the Children's Museum of Houston, or by shopping at the famous Galleria. Summer thunderstorms are fairly common, and July is the rainiest time of year, so visitors should also bring an umbrella.
Fall in Houston
- As summer cools down and fall begins, Houston enters the beginning of its most pleasant time of year weather-wise. Fall daytime highs are in the mid 70s to 80s, making this time of year perfect for golfing or for visiting outdoor historical sites, such as George Ranch Historic Park, a 23,000-acre working cattle ranch. Clothing during September should be lightweight and comfortable, while October and November are cooler.
Winter in Houston
- Winter is also very pleasant in Houston. As the rest of the country suffers ice, snow and plunging temperatures, Houston boasts high temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. Overnight lows stay in the mid to upper 40s, so it never gets too cold! January is typically the coolest month of the year with an average daily high of 65 degrees. Warm winter days are perfect for taking in the city sights, or for attending a sporting event like the Houston Rockets (NBA) or Houston Aeros (AHL).
Spring in Houston
- Springtime in Houston brings warmer temperatures, with daily highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s. It's still pleasant outside, so spring is a great time of year to visit Moody Gardens or Six Flags AstroWorld. Packing for a spring trip to Houston should include lots of short-sleeved shirts as well as shorts and some long pants, plus a jacket or lightweight sweater for evening outings.
