Garvan Woodland Gardens: Dierks Promenade
Garvan Woodland Gardens is an example of the Natural State at its best: a canopy of pines reaching skyward providing protection for delicate flora and fauna, gentle lapping waves that unfold along the four miles of wooded shoreline, and rocky inclines that remind everyone of the surrounding Ouachita Mountains. Verna Cook Garvan was devoted to creating a world-class botanical garden on her Lake Hamilton property and lovingly filled the area with beautiful trees, flowers and other unique landscape creations.
She donated the land to the University of Arkansas School of Architecture and continued adding to the beauty of the gardens until her death in 1993. The university undertook a major cataloging project to record every species of plant life so that plans to expand would fit in perfectly with the already-magnificent flora and fauna. Today the gardens continue to dazzle visitors of all ages. Come experience a serene nature retreat in the heart of the Natural State.
