Reynolds Square near Hilton Head Island, SC was once the home of the Filature and called the Lower New Square. It was also home to the many cocoons brought there for spinning silk with the hopes of a prosperous silk industry. These hopes were dashed when a fire damaged the Square. It was then renamed Reynolds Square after the Royal Governor of Georgia, John Reynolds.
Reynolds Square is now home for many booming businesses. Southern Antiques & Interiors is one business that is on Reynolds Square. Southern Antiques & Interiors offers custom made furniture as well as antiques they have been dealing for 15 years. You'll get carried away browsing through their 10,000 square feet of furnishings and home décor items.
Another highlight on Reynolds Square is Lucas Square, an old time four story movie theatre built by Arthur Lucas. So elaborate and elegant was this theatre that it was often referred to as a movie palace. For many years people went to the Lucas Theatre to see some of the greatest vaudeville's acts as well as movies. This theatre saw the public through first the silent movies and then the movies with talking. In 1989, it was turned into Lucas Theatre for the Arts with the intent of making it once again elegant as Mr. Lucas intended it to be.
The Pink House managed to somehow survive the fire of 1796 by sheer luck as over 200 other homes were destroyed. Its name is derived from the rose-pink stucco on the house. It went from being a General's headquarters during the war to the tavern and restaurant it is now.
Other sightseers delights on Reynolds Square are Oliver Sturges House and Christ Church Parish House, which was interestingly enough, a cigar house.
