The Morris and Whiteside Galleries in Hilton Head Island, house an eclectic collection of fine art, most of which are dominated by Western Masters and cowboy art.
The Galleries feature outstanding artists of national and international repute like Joan Potter, Peter Rolfe, Sonya Terpening, Stephen Scott Young and William Hook. You can also view fine pieces of sculpted art by John Coleman, Gary Price, Glenna Goodacre and Grant Speed. The collection of sculptures and paintings is reminiscent of the 19th and 20th Century period, with many of the pieces focusing on still life, frontier landscapes and genre scenes. The expansive collection has attracted the eye of many art collectors from all over the country as is known to be the most extensive collection of works related to the southern and the coastal regions in the region.
The galleries also hold the distinction of being the only representatives of original paintings by distinguished artist Joseph Orr. Proprietors Ben Whiteside and Jack Morris travel all over the globe in search of unique, outstanding pieces which are then painstakingly shipped to the galleries. Several exhibitions which the Morris and Whiteside Galleries host are dedicated to the works of one featured artist. These exhibitions are aimed towards allowing the artist as much exposure as possible while also encouraging up and coming artists to showcase their talents here. You will also find excellent pieces by Tom Lowell, James Reynolds and ten one-of-a-kind paintings by Frank McCarthy here.
The galleries also conduct art auctions which are based on an unusual format. Here, the artist's works are exhibited at various locations and collectors can put their names on pieces after which the exhibition moves to another location. At the grand finale, which is usually held at the Hilton Head Island, the winners of the paintings are selected.
