The Seiverling Antique Car and Pedal Car Museum located in Ephrata houses a collection of over 160 models. The museum was started in 1991 by Richard Seiverling and his wife Ethel with 5 classic cars and one pedal car. Over the years the collection has grown and there are now 162 pedal cars from America, Canada, England, France, Italy and Russia. The collection includes new, and restored originals and a few rarities. The classic cars now featured are a 1967 Ford T-5 and a Graham Special 8 Sedan and a Chrysler Cabriolet Series from the 1930s.
The pedal cars come in all shapes and sizes, with single and two seaters and different features such as lights or a horn. Look out for the teddy bear drivers from Ethel Seiverling's collection! The oldest car dates from 1918 and has a wooden steering wheel and crank handle, and rubber wheels. The collection also includes a Packard from 1923, a 1957 Corvette with working lights and Coca-Cola, John Deere and Good Humor cars. If you prefer planes the Museum has 12 pedal planes including a 1917 Fokker triplane, 'the red Baron' and a replica of Lindbergh's plane.
For something smaller still the Museum has a collection of miniatures created by Hallmark in the late 1990s. Their designer Don Palmeter used measurements taken from the Seiverling Museum to create exact replicas. Admission to the Museum is free and by appointment only. Children, families and groups are all welcome. Evenings after 5.30pm and weekends after 12.3pm are preferred.
