Founded in 1888 by local businessmen, the Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad revives the classic memories of the Railroad era in the Harrisburg — Hershey region.
The railroad first began with one diesel locomotive and 2 employees and has gone on to own four such engines and large number of employees who ensure round-the-clock service to customers. At the Railroad, you can embark on an 11 mile train ride which leads to the Swatara Creek from the Union Canal. On the way, you will learn about the history of the Canal through a captivating narrative and also enjoy a splendorous view of the Swatara Creek while riding 35 feet above it.
The Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad also conducts several special events which begin at Middletown. The Murder Mystery Dinner Train is a delightful combination of an interesting train ride and a sumptuous dinner while a murderer on the prowl challenges you to trace him by the time dessert is served. The ride which lasts for 2 ½ hours departs at 6 pm. You can even travel to the North Pole to visit Santa while munching on cookies and sipping on tall glasses of milk as the conductor reads you an engrossing Polar Bear story.
New Years Eve is eagerly awaited at the Middletown and Hummelstown Railroad. Here, you can visit Hummelstown just in time to participate in a spirited celebration and return to the beats of live music while donning your most enthusiastic party hat.
To ensure that the rides are family-friendly and conducive to even little children, the Railroad enforces a strict no alcohol and no smoking policy on all its rides.
